It’s nearly been a whole month since we launched Third Sector Essentials! Check out the launch review on the Third Sector Essentials website.
Here we are in the wake of a new Con-Dem government. So, how does the change of government feel for you in the third sector? Oh sorry, its not Third Sector any more it’s Civil Society now. Well, from where I’m standing people are starting to worry about all the cuts to budgets and how the change from ‘Third Sector’ to ‘Civil Society’ is going to affect voluntary and community organisations. We now have Nick Hurd as Minister for Civil Society as well. … Continue Reading
We all worked really hard planning and hosting the Launch of Third Sector Essentials. The event was really well received by all the people that attended. They left with smiles on their faces and absolutely loved the compass souvenirs. It certainly made all the hard work worth while and we are all very pleased with the result. Well done everyone.
I’m intrigued by iHobo, an free downloadable mobile iphone “app” created pro-bono by branding firm Publicis for the Depaul UK homeless charity. iHobo asks its users to host for three days a “virtual” homeless youth, complete with attitude, hoodie and trainers. It’s been compared to the famous Tamagotchi. So is an app depicting a homeless person as a virtual pet grotesque or an ingenius way to raise awareness of youth homelessness and reach out to a relatively affluent younger audience? … Continue Reading
Proud to announce that all the Gio staff woke up bright and earl this morning and made our way to our respective polling stations and voted for our party of choice.
We would like to encourage everyone to vote today and register your say on how you would like to see the country develop in the years ahead.
We will all surely be affected by whoever wins this election, so do your bit by voting and ensuring your preferred part has the best chance of winning.

I stumbled across this article in Third Sector Magazine about what is going to happen to lottery funding after 6th May. Initially, I only read the title and my mind began to work overtime …. what if the new government decides to get rid of the lottery funding altogether? They are a key funder for many of the third sector groups that we work with and for my project. It would be a diasaster! But then I read through the article and none of the parties are talking about doing anything that drastic. Phew, I can rest easy! However, I thought it might be interesting to blog about it and put a link to the article on our webite. So, click here if you would like to read the article.
Well if you not suffering from information overload regarding the general election then you are doing well!
NCVO have put together a page on their website with loads of information, including their response to all the major party manifestos and a poll that lets you know who is currently in the lead.

So I am continuing the theme of trying to help you stay up to date with what is going on with the main political parties and how their policies will impact the work of non profit organisations and charities. KnowHow have interviewed the third sector ministers (Angela Smith, Nick Hurd and Jenny Willott) and you can listen to the podcasts on the KnowHow website
Take a minute or so to hear what they have to say… it makes for interesting listening!
