Would you like to learn how to manage conflict, anger or fear in positive ways and improve relationships?

 The Alternative to Violence Project (AVP) is a national charity that organises workshops for adults of all ages and backgrounds that want to improve communication skills and learn how to resolve conflict constructively and peacefully.

CityCampMCR 14th and 15th October 2011

CityCampMCR will be a two-day event which will be held on 14th-15th October, 2011. CityCamp Manchester aims to share ideas, explore challenges, join-up resources and develop solutions which build a more sustainable future for Greater Manchester.

CityCamp Manchester is a broad-based initiative to bring together people from across Greater Manchester who want to make a positive contribution to their part of the Greater Manchester region. It aims to develop a network which supports people in identifying and solving problems, enabling people to take practical, meaningful action in their communities.

During the two-day event, we aim to:

• identify projects that contribute to a more sustainable, resourceful and resilient Greater Manchester;
• showcase innovative approaches that inform and inspire participants to take action in their community;
• share ideas, explore challenges, join-up resources and develop innovative solutions;
• engage and build relationships between a diverse range of people (including local government, businesses, community groups, academics, journalists, technologists…).

Speakers at the event include: Jonathan Atkinson from Manchester’s
Carbon Co-op, Chris Walsh from the Kindling Trust and Feeding
Manchester, from Dave Mee & Hwa Young from Madlab. There will also be
practical workshops on subjects such as project management and
fundraising.

Sported Launch Event

An event to launch the services of .sported in the North West. sported. is a national charity that provides funding and capacity building support to organisations and individuals that use sport as a vehicle to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people aged 11-25. The aim of this afternoon launch is to introduce sported. and its strategic aims, plans and services to key stakeholders across the region, as well as providing an opportunity for networking and hearing from member and partner organisations.

A fringe event at the Conservative Party conference. Hosted by CLES, the session will examine the localism agenda and the balance of power between local and central Government. A key element of the Government’s localism agenda is public service transformation and this event will explore some of the challenges of this change as well as some of the opportunities. Speakers include Mike Blackburn, NW regional director of BT and Sir Tony Hawkhead, Chief Executive of Groundwork UK. Booking not required – just turn up.

The Charity Service Re-launch

One of Manchester’s most long serving charities is re-launching at a networking event on the 15th September at their offices in Bridge Street. The Charity Service origins go back to 1924 as part of Manchester and Salford Council of Social Services and they have evolved to provide a range of services to other charities, donors and businesses to “make more of every gift”.

The event will showcase the services the charity provides and in the current economic climate where charities are seeing funding cuts and a decline in donations these services are more relevant than ever. The Lord Mayor of Manchester and the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester will be in attendance along with business leaders, charity heads and philanthropists from across the North West.

The Charity Service help claim and process government incentives like Gift Aid  and assist with Trust Management, Payroll Giving, Will Trusts and Charity Cheque Accounts. For other charities they provide free “Donate Now” button hyperlinks for websites   and host the MyGift online donation website where there are no set up costs involved.   • Understand more about the ways people communicate
  • Have gained an overview of coaching skills including generative listening; being curious and asking questions; identifying goals, process, actions and evaluation; giving clear feedback; and others
  • Have a basic understanding of some coaching frameworks and models and had an opportunity to practice, and to give and receive feedback.

  • Have developed their skills in group working

Times: All sessions run 5pm – 7pm

Participants should ideally attend all sessions in order to build continuity and rapport within the group.

For: managers, board/committee members, staff, volunteers.

  • Have created a safe, confidential space for thinking, discussion and insights.
  • Have developed their skills in group working through experiencing the Rising Circles group process
  • Have gained skills in identifying goals; action steps and personal evaluation; developing effective questions, congruent insights, sensitive support and compassionate challenge; giving and receiving feedback and many other areas
  • Have experienced a process through which they may positively influence the future through focussing their own thinking and actions towards that which they wish to create

This will be a coaching circle.
