Hedley Foundation

March 19, 2012 News No Comments

The main objective of the Trustees’ grant-making is to assist and encourage development and change.  It follows that most grants will be of capital or one-off nature, but the Trustees sometimes agree to help fund the introduction of new and innovative projects with a series of up to 3 annual grants.  Few grants exceed £5,000 and most of them go to charities where they can make an impact.  We do not support large or national appeals.

Applications for grants should be made on the application form available on the website

The application form should be downloaded, completed in typescript, printed off and sent by post to:

Mrs Pauline Barker, The Hedley Foundation, 1-3 College Hill, London EC4R 2RA Email: pbarker@hedleyfoundation.org.uk

and should be accompanied by your e-mail address or a self-addressed envelope (not necessarily stamped).
The Trustees meet six times a year. The closing date for a meeting is three weeks beforehand.

In 2012, the Trustees will meet on the following dates: 25th January; 14th March; 16th May; 18th July; 26th September; 21st November

All applications will be acknowledged, but, in the case of those short-listed, not until after they have been considered by the Trustees.
Last year the Foundation received 1,467 applications, of which less than two-thirds were within our criteria. They made 348 grants (averaging £3,000). Applicants should not be surprised or too disappointed if they are unsuccessful.

Main objective (currently about 70% of the Foundation’s budget)

Young people:  their education, recreation, support, training, health and welfare,

Subsidiary objectives

Disabled people and the terminally ill:  provision of specialist equipment and support for carers,

Grants for specific projects only, mostly one-off, but no core revenue, salary or transport funding.  The Foundation makes a limited number of recurring grants for up to three years.

Creative people and places fund – Arts Council

March 19, 2012 News No Comments

The Arts Council will invest in a small number of places of greatest need to establish action research projects called Creative people and places. This investment will encourage long-term collaborations between local communities and arts organisations, museums, libraries and local authorities. It aims to empower them to experiment with radically different approaches and develop inspiring, sustainable arts programmes that will engage audiences in those communities.

Excellence will be central to the activity supported and although funding can only be guaranteed for three years, they would like to see applications which carry a 10-year vision for these communities.

A total of £37 million will be available to establish around 15 Creative people and places projects between autumn 2012 and autumn 2015. It is anticipated that the majority of proposals will be for between £500,000 and £3 million over three years.

Consultation Event for the Voluntary & Community Sector Infrastructure in Manchester

February 27, 2012 News No Comments

Macc

There are two separate consultation events. You may wish to attend one or both.

Description of event:

MACC would like to invite you to a special voluntary sector consultation.  These events have been arranged throughout the city, over a number of days, to look at the development and changes to Voluntary and Community Sector Infrastructure in Manchester.

Macc’s role in the voluntary sector is evolving. As part of that we have committed to reviewing the management, governance and structure of Macc but above all to consult with the local sector about the kinds of support and activities you want us to run.  We are now in a position to start this process however; we don’t want this to be a one-off exercise: it’s an ongoing dialogue. Our vision is that the consultation should be owned by and accountable to the local sector but we need your help.  Please attend a session and let us know what you want from us now and in the future.

The Tree of Life Centre in Wythenshawe are having a late open evening this Thursday, the 17th November. Adam, their shop manager, says:

”We are having a late-opening here at the Tree of Life Centre on Greenbrow Road this Thursday 17thNovember. It is the first time we have attempted one and I am really hoping it will be well attended. There will be singers there to get us in the mood, mulled wine and mince pies and our well stocked Christmas shop, full of items at very affordable prices (from as little as 20p) that can make great gifts without breaking the bank, as well as some great decorations and Christmas trees. Our famous furniture shop will of course be open too so those that can’t usually make our normal hours can also have a chance to take a look.”

For more details, please contact Adam on 0161 489 7018.
